The University of Oregon graduated its first 54 students in our first UO LeaderShape during the summer of 2007.  These 54 students representing different programs, ethnic backgrounds, religious affiliations, cultural backgrounds and leadership positions are connected and working toward common goals across the University of Oregon campus.  LeaderShape has created a strong sense of community and unity by building bridges where they have not previously existed.

The Holden Leadership Center introduced UO Leadershape to campus and we look forward to fostering and developing the leadership skills of our most promising leaders, whether they are just beginning their leadership exploration or are already well-established leaders. This annual program will be comprised of 60 students. LeaderShape curriculum is presented by a group of facilitators who are all highly respected in their own professions and serve as excellent role models for participants. This is a great opportunity to learn from and network with some of the finest students and educators in the state of Oregon.

At the LeaderShape Institute, participants create a personal LeaderShape Vision through a tried and true process. The objective is to identify something each person is passionate about and create a vision and action plan to help share that idea with friends, campus, the community, and the world.  LeaderShape also provides the tools to effectively implement these visions once participants have returned to campus.  Applications will be collected in April of 2008.  Mark your calendars!

The Week in Review

LeaderShape utilizes highly interactive program methods rather than classroom lectures. Everyone is a teacher and everyone is a learner. A great deal of work is done in small groups, called family clusters. The Family Cluster provides a supportive, safe environment, which promotes learning and the development of new skills and attitudes. Another unique feature of LeaderShape is the Team Challenge Course. This half-day outdoor team-building experience teaches concepts of trust, communication, and problem solving.

What Will Participants Learn?
Participants will learn how to:
  •     Create a Powerful Vision
  •     Build Successful Teams
  •     Implement Action Plans
  •     Evaluate Personal Strengths and Challenges
  •     Experience the Dynamics of Group Problem-solving
  •     Communicate with Care and Impact
  •     Utilize Ethics and Values in Decision-making
  •     Understand Power and Influence
“LeaderShape has forever changed how I think about leadership and as a result I now have a very healthy disregard for the impossible. It was the most empowering and influential week of my life.”
~ Jennifer Lleras, UO Junior
