The University of Oregon is proud to be included in a unique group of only 63 public and private institutions in the United States and Canada that are selected for membership in the exclusive Association of American Universities. This group is made up of the top 2% of all research universities in North America. Unlike some large research institutions, the UO continues to place an extraordinary emphasis on undergraduate education, providing students with a broad spectrum of experiences that support intellectual and personal development within a residential campus. Leadership training is an integral part of this development, and the UO strives to offer the premier leadership program in the country. In response to the growing need for a centralized leadership development program at the UO, the Holden Leadership Center was established in May, 2005. The creation of the department represents the culmination of a thorough planning process by faculty, staff and students dedicated to providing necessary leadership training resources.
The mission of the HLC is to serve the UO community as a clearinghouse for leadership development opportunities, materials, and experiences. In fulfilling this mission, the HLC provides a bridge between student affairs and academic programs in an interdisciplinary effort to further leadership development.
The UO is a member of the Oregon State System of Higher Education and is tax exempt under IRS Code 115 (Federal Tax I.D. number: 48-1278531). If you would like to learn more about the HLC or are interested in supporting a leadership initiative at the UO, please contact John Duncan at 541-346-3701 or via email.
